Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. (PVI) hosted its 35th Annual Author’s Salon on Sunday, April 26th, at PVI’s Adult Activity Center at Little House. The highly anticipated event featured three authors, Bruce Henderson, Laurie King, and Jessica Beebee, and raised funds to directly support PVI’s vital programs for local seniors.
The afternoon commenced with refreshments upon entering. Guests had the opportunity to meet the authors before heading to the Little House courtyard, where the event took place. This year, the event honored Bev Nelson, the founder of Author’s Salon. She shared her experience and joy in organizing Authors’ Salon every year, and the impact it has had in amplifying PVI’s mission of enabling seniors to age in place. At the end of the program, the Peninsula Volunteers presented her with flowers, and this year’s invite enlarged and signed by every Peninsula Volunteer.
Don Bleu kicked off the official program with a lighthearted “spin-the-wheel” game. The lucky winner received a gift certificate.
Jan Yanehiro returned to moderate the event. Each author spoke on their unique perspective on the writing process and learned in real time similarities in their journeys, both professionally and personally. Following their discussion, Jan opened the floor for audience questions and then had each author read a passage from their book. Bruce Henderson surprised guests by opting to share his direct experience with PVI instead. His mother was an active member at Little House, and he recounted how PVI made her 100th birthday a celebration to remember. The afternoon concluded with an additional book signing, providing further opportunities for guests to connect with each author.
The funds raised at the 35th Annual Author’s Salon will directly support PVI’s ongoing efforts to provide essential services that empower seniors to live with dignity and independence.
